Guaíba River

The Guaíba River, actually a lake but always called " river", is more than a postcard of Porto Alegre. The river garanteeded the development of many comercial activities in the city, assuring the condition of the state's capital.

The sunset in Guaíba is one of the great Porto Alegre landmarks. The changes of colors happen because the diversity of the climate in Rio Grande do Sul. The banks of the river are the best place to watch this spectacle. Besides the boat rides, sailing schools and windsurf, the sailing championships that occur in the river, are among the bests in the world. The sunset in Porto Alegre is considered by many people as the most beatiful in the world, as described by the poet Mário Quintana: "De uma feita estava eu sentado sozinho (...) quando começaram a acontecer coisas incríveis no céu (...): Havia uns tons de chá, que se foram avinhando e se transformaram num roxos de insuportável beleza."
