SANTANDER CULTURAL
The building of Santander Cultural, tumbled for the historical patrimony, is situated in the Alfandega Square, in the center of Porto Alegre. Old headquarters of the national banks of the Commerce and Brazilian South, was constructed between the years of 1927 and 1932.The design of the restauration and adaptation transformed the old building into a modern cultural center, keeping untouched the original spaces in dialogue with contemporary interventions. Total equipped to offer the best support to the diverse activities and comfort to the public.
Now in the downtown of Porto Alegre, mainly in the areas next to the Alfandega Square , is a cultural area since Santander Cultural is few meters far from the Museum of Art(Margs) and from Memorial do Rio Grande do Sul . The performance of this new museum is in the visual arts, since there are works of art made by people who were born in the state and works made by people from other countries, in the cinema, with many selected movies. Moreover the presence of musical events is very strong, debates, seminaries and lectures also occur there.
